Entering the Medium...

Preface to Game Entry

Date Published: November 11 2009

If you're seeing this before our entry post on the yet-upcoming April 13th, no you haven't. Or you have, and somehow your laptop has been dilated forward in time. Congratulations on your first attempt at time travel! This here will be telling you all you need to know before the game has started. Here's what you need to know:

  1. SBURB has a lot of death. I mean a lot of death. The Reckoning itself is the source of most of this death, but the game itself is also an active warzone. You must be careful through the whole experience.
  2. SBURB will try to kill you. If you aren't careful, sure, you're almost guaranteed to have a dream self as a backup, but this isn't always the case, especially with the political antics of the dream planets and what they might do to get rid of a few players, especially on the indigo moon of Derse.
  3. Sburb is not designed to be replayed. The goal of the game is to create a new universe after having ascending echelons upon echelons of inane shenaniganery to get to that point. You get in, you get out, we're good. More on the main subject, SBURB itself is glitchy and breaky. This is currently an open beta in most universes, and it will probably be some sort of mess. You can apply for bug-testing with SkaiaNet following the e-mail on the front page!
Devices for Game Entry (the Phernalia Registry)
Image of Device Description
The Cruxtruder in all its glory The Cruxtruder, or Cruxite extruder, is the first and most vital piece of the Phernalia Registry going into SBURB. Once the first is placed and the lid is blown off with immense force, the kernelsprite and the first cruxite dowel will be released. When they are released, the timer for The Reckoning will start, and the universe will officially be in lockstep with SBURB.

Once the first Cruxite dowel is released, more can be infinitely generated by rotating the valve on its side.
A pre-punched captcha card containing a Cruxite Apple The Cruxite Artifact, initially manifested through the pre-punched card and deployed for free through the Phernalia Registry, is essential in allowing the player to enter SBURB. Typically speaking, the artifact will take the shape of a food item or container for food, like an apple or a bottle of liquor.

To manifest the cruxite artifact, the pre-punched card must be processed through a Totem Lathe and the following carved dowel must materialize the item with the Alchemiter. Once processed this way, the artifact will activate the entry process when utilized in the proper manner; for example, a cruxite apple will begin entry if bitten into.
The Totem Lathe, the third (second?) step in your journey to SBURB The Totem Lathe is the second piece of the Phernalia Registry you'll come across in the game. It uses the captcha code associated with a punched card to carve a cruxite dowel by depth using a laser, which is key in alchemizing items. These carved dowels can be inserted directly onto an Alchemiter's pedestal to scan and create the item from Grist, a currency that you will find throughout the game.
The Alchemiter in all of its superior glory, outclassing every other machine here by leagues The Alchemiter is the most versatile machine of the base Phernalia Registry, enabling the player to materialize any item they wish at the cost of specific Grists and a carved totem from the Totem Lathe. This can be circumvented with the usage of the rather-expensive Jumper Block Extension, which can then be integrated directly into it if a punched card of the extension is inserted. Using the newly-added shunts, you can add the other punched Phernalia Registry items to directly add sylladex cards to be punched and used in either an && AND operation or a || OR operation, creating new items from the operation and items used.

Additions from the direct registry include the Holopad for previews and the Intellibeam Laserstation for reading illegible captchas. Sburb's Atheneum can be used to log alchemy results.
